Sonny stood knee-deep

in the river.

The afternoon sun

shone on the water.

He had not

caught a fish

since morning.

He hadn’t even

felt a bite

for an hour.

Just then,

he felt a tug

on the line.

It felt

like a big fish

making a strong pull.

Sonny pulled up

on the rod

and hooked the fish.

Just at that second,

an idea

came to him.

He seemed

to catch hold

of himself

just as he caught

the fish.

“That’s it!”

he said out loud.

“I’m going to find

a new job.

I can’t wait around

another day.”
